International Electrochemistry Congress in Montreal
Professor emeritus Daniel Bélanger and his colleague Steen Schougaard, from NanoQAM, are leading the international committee responsible for organizing the 75th congress of the International Society of Electrochemistry, which will welcome a thousand researchers to the Palais des congrès de Montréal on 18 until August 23.
“UQAM has a tradition of excellence in electrochemistry,” emphasizes Steen Schougaard. In the current context where Quebec wishes to be a key player in the development of battery-related technologies, particularly lithium and hydrogen-based, we are delighted to be able to host this congress in Montreal.”
Under the theme “Electrochemistry: Science and Technology for a Sustainable and Better Planet”, the scientific programming of the event is at the heart of the challenges of the 21st century, namely energy storage and its conversion – lithium batteries, generation hydrogen, fuel cells – through green technologies, corrosion that degrades our infrastructure and the development of advanced biochemical analyses, necessary for personalized medicine.
One of the guest speakers will be Professor Rudolph Marcus of the California Institute of Technology, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1992 for his contributions to the theory of electron transfer reactions in chemical systems. “Professor Marcus is 101 years old, he will be giving his presentation live from California. We are delighted that he has agreed to participate in the congress,” rejoices Steen Schougaard.
The presentations, divided into 17 thematic sessions, will be given by researchers from around the world, including NanoQAM professors Joshua Byers and Guillaume Goubert as well as doctoral student Samaneh Salek. “Several of our graduate students will also participate in the poster presentations,” notes Steen Schougaard.
