2024 Prize of Excellence in Science for Professor Frenette
The Faculty of Sciences awarded its 2024 Excellence Awards on May 8 at the Cœur des sciences. During this event, Professor Mathieu Frenette was honored in the Teaching category for his achievements and contributions to the development and influence of the Faculty. The awards ceremony took place in the presence, in particular, of the winners and their loved ones as well as the dean of the Faculty of Sciences Normand Séguin, the vice-dean for research Isabelle Marcotte and the vice-dean studying Johanne Grenier.
The evaluations of the teachings of Professor of the Department of Chemistry Mathieu Frenette, member of NanoQAM, testify to his qualities as a teacher. He obtained an average of 3.6/4.0 and five of his courses received a grade of 3.9. As part of the baccalaureate course Projects in Materials Chemistry, Mathieu Frenette and his colleagues Mohamed Siaj, director of the NanoQAM research center, and Joshua Byers, director of undergraduate programs in chemistry, undertook a project with their students development of a new conductive material to generate green hydrogen from water. Since 2018, the professor has organized a Chemistry Olympiad. Through games that he designed himself, he promotes the integration of new students and encourages team spirit.
