Strategic research chairs

Launched in the fall of 2013, the program of strategic research chairs aims to support the development of research and creation at UQAM, in particular in so-called emerging, intersectoral or innovative fields. The chairs are awarded to a single holder by competition according to the following criteria: the innovation potential of the proposed work and internal and external collaborations, the scientific, social and cultural spin-offs, as well as the integration and supervision of students.

Professor Daniel Bélanger, from the Department of Chemistry, member of NanoQAM, is the holder of the Research Chair in New Materials for Energy Technologies. The field of materials science, in which UQAM is a leader in Quebec, is booming worldwide. The chair will mainly focus on the storage of electricity (batteries, electrochemical super-capacitors) as well as the development of photovoltaic cells – which convert solar energy into electricity – and fuel cells – which transform chemical energy. in electricity without CO2 emission. Daniel Bélanger’s work will be carried out in collaboration with university and industrial researchers as well as with several foreign laboratories.
