New GPC and GPC-HT instruments

Two new acquisitions

The NanoQAM Research Center has been managing 2 new pieces of equipment since this week. These are two new GPCs (from the Viscotek company) recently acquired by Prof. Jérome Claverie. This new equipment, which has been operational since the end of 2008, is accessible to everyone from now on.

Instrument properties

Steric exclusion gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is a technique of choice for the rapid and reliable characterization of molecular weights and their distribution, for all types of macromolecules (proteins, natural polymers and synthetic polymers). The Viscotek chromatograph is a complete system suitable for all types of macromolecular characterizations. This chromatograph is equipped with UV, II, QELS and MALS detectors and uses aqueous or organic mobile phases.

This liquid phase steric exclusion chromatograph makes it possible to determine the average molecular weights of the polymers. This GPC chromatograph for high temperature (mobile phases: chlorobenzene, DMSO, etc., temperature below 200C) allows the absolute determination of molar masses. This is possible thanks to the light scattering (LS) and viscometric detectors.

Future uses

As with all other equipment supported by the NanoQAM Research Center, people interested in using this equipment must first undergo training with Alexandre Arnold.
