New Dynamic Tensiometer

A new acquisition

The NanoQAM Research Center has been supporting new equipment since this week. It is a Dynamic Tensiometer (DCAT11 Dataphysics) acquired by Pr. Jérôme Claverie. This new equipment is accessible to everyone from today.

Instrument properties

The DCAT 11 instrument a dynamic contact angle measurement system with a sphygmomanometer function. This instrument allows measurements controlled by software such as:

  • Dynamic contact angle and surface energy of cylindrical and prismatic samples according to the Wilhelmy method,
  • Static surface and interfacial tension of liquids,
  • Contact angle of powders and fiber bundles as well as the adsorption behavior of liquids on wettable materials according to the modified Washburn method,
  • Critical micellar concentration (CMC) of formation of surfactants according to the Wilhelmy blade method, the “Frame Lenard” method or the “Du Noüy Ring” method with automatic ring correction according to the methods of Huh & Mason, Zuidema & Waters and Harkins & Jordan.

The instrument is coupled with the LDU 2/2 (liquid distribution unit) which allows automated measurement of the critical micellar concentration (CMC).

Future uses

As with all the other equipment supported by the NanoQAM Research Center, people interested in using this equipment must imperatively undergo training with Gwenaël Chamoulaud.
