New TGA-MS equipment

MS coupled TG analyzer

Professor Daniel Bélanger of the Department of Chemistry at UQAMand the NanoQAM research center have just made available to various academic and industrial players in the nanotechnology fields a new thermogravimetric analyzer coupled with mass spectrometry allowing the simultaneous study of the nature of the products resulting from thermal decomposition reactions.

Instrument properties

The TGA part (Q500), allows the measurement of masses between 0-200 mg (sensitivity 0.1ug, accuracy 0.01%) and to control the temperature up to 1000 ° C. The analyzes can be carried out under N2 or Air in cupolas made of platinum (Pt), aluminum (Al) or alumina (Al2O3). The device is equipped with an autosampler that allows the analysis of 16 samples in a row. The oven is EGA (quartz) type and allows coupling to the mass spectrometer.

The MS part (Discovery) is a quadrupole mass spectrometer connected to the TGA oven via a heated capillary interface. The equipment allows mass measurements between 1 and 300 amu with a sensitivity of the order of ppb.

Future uses

Anyone interested in using this TGA / MS or interested in being trained on this instrument for autonomous use, must imperatively contact Mr. Gwenaël Chamoulaud beforehand.
